Tuntum has two Sheltered Housing Schemes, both in Nottingham. Our aim is to ensure that Sheltered Housing Residents should be able to retain maximum independence in their own homes and have care, with dignity, provided as and when it is required.
Sheltered housing schemes are designed to provide older people with homes that are convenient and secure, while also allowing them to retain their independence. Residents and their relatives have the reassurance of an on site scheme manager and a telephone link to a central control point for emergencies. They also enjoy the benefits of communal facilities such as lounges and gardens.
Our sheltered housing is for people over retirement age or younger people who have a special need such as poor health, disability, loneliness, fear or isolation from friends and family. However, the majority of residents are older people or couples who no longer want the expense and worry of maintaining their own house or garden.
Our properties are independent self-contained flats with their own kitchens and bathroom. All are centrally heated and incorporate building design features that make them particularly suited to the needs of older people.
Both or our schemes are located just outside of Nottingham City centre. For further information please Contact Us.
Both of our sheltered homes are able to provide meals to meet the needs of frailer older people. Residents can keep their independence, privacy and control over their lives while receiving any extra help they need. We have a great deal of experience of working with the elderly, we are able to offer flexible care which is adapted to meet residents' individual needs.
Both of our sheltered housing schemes have a scheme manager who is on-site daily to keep a discreet eye on residents' health and welfare.
Scheme managers are responsible for assessing people's individual needs for care and support, as well as organising outside resources to meet them. This involves:
Welcoming new residents
Making daily contact with all residents
Recognising and identifying care/support needs
Participating in assessment of care/support services at scheme and individual levels
Answering emergency calls and getting help
The scheme manager encourages residents to support each other and to arrange social activities, as well as encouraging other organisations working with older people to use the scheme facilities.
Other duties include general administration and management, staff recruitment, training and health and safety.
Because the scheme manager may not always be available in an emergency, community alarm service provide residents with 24-hour reassurance.
A special alarm unit in each will, at the touch of a button, put a call through to a community alarm control centre. The alarm unit can also be activated by squeezing a small pendant, worn round the neck, or by activating a "pull cord" in some rooms.
At the control centre, trained staff answer the call, and if possible take instructions as to what kind of help is needed. They may call a neighbour, relative or friend or the doctor. If the caller cannot speak - perhaps because they have suffered a stroke - control centre staff will draw on their records of relatives, doctors, and so on, and decide whom to contact.
If you think Tuntum's sheltered housing would suit your needs, the next step is choose the scheme where you would like to live.
When you have chosen a scheme, you need to fill in an application form, available on-line or by Contacting Us. Receipt of your application will be acknowledged and you will be advised who to contact for additional information, or if you would like to visit either of ours schemes.
