The project, which will cost in excess of £4m, is due for completion by early Spring 2011 and will comprise a four storey building of 32, two-bedroom apartments. These will complement Balisier Court; an existing Tuntum sheltered scheme also for the over 55s. Eight of the new apartments will be available for sale on a shared ownership basis and the remainder will be at rents for people on low income.
The new development will replace outdated accommodation previously owned by Nottingham City Council, which was deemed unfit for purpose and which forms part of the wider regeneration of St Ann’s, one of the most neglected areas of Nottingham.
Funding for the scheme has come from the Homes and Communities Agency, Nottingham City Council and Tuntum Housing Association.
The scheme will utilise Nottingham City’s existing District Heating system, a sustainable heating initiative, to provide heating and hot water for the new apartments. This is achieved by burning off domestic and commercial waste to provide green energy to properties across Nottingham.
At the launch Councillor Jon Collins, Leader, Nottingham City Council praised Tuntum for tackling a difficult regeneration project which was desperately needed. He said that the development was the final piece in the overall regeneration of the area and that the City Council was pleased to be working in partnership with Tuntum to complete the project.
Tuntum's Chief Executive, Richard Renwick MBE, said "Tuntum is committed to providing regeneration solutions to areas of disadvantage in Nottingham and pleased to be working in partnership with William Davis, the City Council and the Homes and Communities Agency to transform this corner of St Ann's, Nottingham".
