How Bands are Allocated in Nottingham

Our Allocations Policy puts everyone who goes onto the housing register into one of six bands in line with Nottingham Homelink's Allocation Policy.

You will be placed into a band and informed of this when you are given your registration number. The most urgent cases for re-housing are put into band one and the least urgent into band six.

Summary of the six bands

Band one

This band is for people who are legally homeless. Legally homeless people have duty to be re-housed by Nottingham City Councils Homelessness Prevention Gateway who can be contacted on 0115 915 3000.

Band two - urgent needs

Some examples include:

• people suffering from domestic violence, racial harassment, other forms of harassment

• people who have been discharged from hospital and who cannot go back to their home without it being adapted

• people under the 'rough sleepers initiative'

• people whose homes are legally termed 'overcrowded'

Band three - moderate needs

Some examples include:

• people living in a hostel needing to move and with a support plan in place

• private tenants with a notice seeking possession Notice Seeking Possession (NSP) or Notice to Quit (NTQ) from their landlord where it is not the fault of the tenant

• tenants who have children of both sexes over the age of 10 sharing a bedroom

• tenants who are willing to give up a high demand property (three bed bungalow, four bed house, specially adapted property) for a lower demand one

Band four - general needs

Some examples include:

• private tenants with secure tenancies (people who have not had a notice served on them)

• lodgers without dependent children

band five - low needs

Some examples include:

• people who own their homes and want to move into social housing

Band six

This band is for people who are waiting for Nottingham City Council to consider them for housing or who live outside Nottinghamshire.

Some examples include:

• people in prison or a detention centre

• people serving in HM forces and living in HM forces housing

• people aged between 16-18 who do not meet any exceptional circumstances
