Allocations Policy

Our Allocations Policy explains who is eligible to be placed onto the housing register. This is often known as the  'waiting list'. It also explains who is and isn't eligible to apply.

How do I apply to go on the housing register?

You need to fill in a application form and provide Homelink with a number of 'proofs' to show your name, address, national insurance number and so on. One of these must also have your photograph on.

Who cannot go on the housing register?

You will not be able to go on the housing register if:

  • you are not allowed to stay in this country permanently or if you are 'habitually resident' and therefore are not allowed to receive any housing from us. If this is the case, it will be explained to you

You may not be able to go on the housing register if:

  • you have a record of anti-social behaviour

  • you are under 18 years old as ywe willl not normally consider you for a property until you are 18 but there are exceptions to this

  • you owe rent (rent arrears) at your current property. There are exceptions to this but you will have to arrange to pay the arrears in full if you are accepted onto the register

Can I be removed from the housing register?

You can be removed from the housing register for three years if we think you are unsuitable to be one of our tenants. This can be because:

  • you have broken your tenancy conditions with us or another social landlord

  • you have deliberately damaged a previous property

  • you have a serious history of criminal or anti-social behaviour

  • you have threatened or been violent to a member of our staff, any of your landlords or the police

  • you have an anti-social behaviour order (asbo) or similar order against you which bans you form being in certain areas of a city.
