Nottingham Caribbean Carnival 2010

Next year’s Nottingham Carnival Parade will burst onto the city streets on Sunday 15th August, in an explosion of colourful costume, live steel pan, samba, dancing and an ensemble of sound systems.

The Parade will make its way from Friar Lane at 2pm through the Market Square on to Derby Road to the Stage Show on the Forest Recreation Ground. Join the parade on route to dance, blow a whistle, and watch the drama unfold!

If you want a good view from one place, head down to the Forest Recreation Ground for about 5pm to see the groups arriving and performing on the Carnival Stage until 6.30pm. There will also be live performances from top local, national and international artists, the Carnival awards ceremony, Caribbean food, Funfair and a Family Area by with face painting.

Nottingham is a city of many outdoor festivals and processions. Unlike other festivals in Nottingham, Nottingham Caribbean Carnival’s central aim is to celebrate the city’s diversity. The Parade draws on carnival and street performance traditions from around the world. Local organisations have brought Trinidadian traditions to Nottingham. Performers use large costumes for playful masquerade, satire, crowd involvement and dance to a heavy dose of Caribbean soca, calypso, reggae and steel pan.

To organise the Parade, Nottingham Carnival Trust works year-round with Tuntum, local groups, artists and businesses. Trained Carnival artists support Nottingham community groups in creating spectacular costumes that will amaze the crowds on Parade Day.

Next year there will be over twenty groups and over 1,500 people involved in the Parade. These groups will range from Nottingham Carnival Club, Take One Community Studio, Hyson Green Youth Club, Professional Troupes such as Rampage and of course our very own Tuntum Troupe!
