 Karibu Foyer provides high quality supported housing to you, homeless people in the Nottingham area, with a particular but not exclusive focus on the needs of ethnic minorites.
Karibu provides more than just accomodation; the Foyer focuses on enabling the young men and women to attain their full potential in terms of education, training or employment.
Our motto is 'unlocking potential' because we believe that every young person has the ability to be successful on their own when they leave us. We provide comfortable accommodation, meals, general advice and support and skills and vocational training. This is held both at Karibu and at local colleges.
All of our residents are in education of some form, ranging from NVQ courses to university degree course. But, of course, life isn't all about hard work and so at Karibu we also run a football team, undertake structured fitness training and some residents have also established a herb garden. The Karibu Foyer provides integrated accommodation, training, employment services and careers guidance for young people between the ages of 16 and 25. Karibu is a Swahili word meaning ‘welcome’.
Karibu Foyer is based in New Basford, Nottingham. Its aim is to provide accommodation primarily, but not exclusively, to meet the needs of Afro-Caribbean young people, but there has always been a balance of residents from many different communities. Applicants are assessed on need in line with both the Scheme’s Allocations Policy and the Association’s Equal Opportunities Policy. The intention is to assist young people in escaping the difficulties with the lack of permanent accommodation.
Karibu Foyer is now part of a European movement to provide a holistic service involving accommodation, training and access to employment for young people. Residents can expect to receive staff support and training in the following areas: welfare benefits, budgeting, health education, counselling, advocacy, life skills, resettlement, career development, job search skills, computer and other job skills training.
