If you are an exsisting tenant and choose to move. There are several ways of doing this:
1. Apply to us for a transfer. We will ask you to complete a form and then assess your priority for transfer based on various factors – approval for a transfer will generally be given only where there has been a change in circumstances and there are no rent arrears, unless in exceptional circumstances. We give greater priority to transfer requests based on racial or other forms of harassment and domestic violence. You may transfer on a maximum of two occasions.
2. Tenant mobility schemes. There is an organisation called ‘HOMES’ that runs mobility schemes. This allows you to move to a property of any Registered Social Landlord or local authority in the country. Priority is given to those who have the greatest need.
3. A mutual exchange is a ‘do-it-yourself’ transfer where you arrange with another tenant to swap homes. The other tenant need not be a Tuntum tenant but could be a local authority tenant or a private tenant. There are a few sensible conditions to be observed (such as not being in rent arrears) but Tuntum generally supports mutual exchanges. Moving home via mutual exchange gives you a much wider choice and avoids waiting lists.
