Nottingham Caribbean Carnival is Nottingham's most vibrant celebration of diversity, colour and sound. Since the cancellation of the Nottingham Caribbean Carnival in 1998 Tuntum has acted as the Strategic Facilitator.
Tuntum formed The Nottingham Carnival Trust as an independent charitable organisation to work in partnership with the Association and the event was re-structured and re-launched in 1999 to significant accolade from the public, local media and agencies.
This strategic partnership is what has enabled the Carnival to become the successful event we see today, one of the main cultural attractions in the East Midlands attracting over 50,000 people.
The highlight of the Carnival is the parade on the Sunday afternoon. The parade showcases professional troupes with local groups and schools participating with troupes and floats that add to the real community spirit of the Carnival. They provide the parade with a dazzling array of colourful costumes, lively music and dancing, truly celebrating the energy of Carnival. The 2008 Carnival included over twenty troupes taking part in the spectacular and colourful parade.
Overall, the weekend is a showcase of new, local and established artists and bands with music, dance tents, fairground stalls, food and craft outlets. The Carnival is one of the most colourful and energetic events in Nottingham's and the East Midlands summer calendar. It is more than just a celebration of the West Indian contribution to Nottingham’s society; it has become an iconic celebration of multi-ethnicity at its best within Nottingham
